Join us to view the sun through a solar telescope and learn more about our universe! This program is best for ages 8 and up and is weather dependent. Registration required.
The Sun is a rather ordinary star, but one on which our very existence depends, providing warmth and energy to life on our planet. During this solar observing session, we will use three types of telescopes to view the sun in white light (which shows sunspots) as well as in the light of hydrogen, which shows surface detail as well as solar prominences and flares normally only visible during total eclipses. A spectroscope will also allow us to see the spectrum of the Sun, which tells us about its chemical composition.
The Northeast Branch is located on Rte. 46 in Independence Twp., close to downtown Hackettstown. The branch features a meeting room, public computers, and quiet reading areas.
