New Jersey is swarming with stories of witches, ghosts, goblins, and monsters. Participants will embrace all that is strange by examining a local, legendary figure that has impacted them.
Using the Jersey Devil as an example, Kailey Tedesco will share work from her own collection, MOTHERDEVIL--an exploration of postpartum and motherhood through the voice of Mother Leeds. We will then work through a series of generative activities related to cultural conceptions of folklore, abjection, and revisionist poetics. Each participant will leave having generated at least one legendary persona poem. There will also be opportunities to receive constructive feedback from the cohort. This is a beginner friendly workshop. Anyone who loves folklore and horror is welcome! Please bring paper and writing utensils of your preference. This program is appropriate for ages 13-adult as some horror-related themes will be covered.
